Watsu massage is a rather unusual type of SPA treatments developed by Professor Harold Dull in the distant 1980. Exactly thirty-one years ago he directed the Center of Massage and Shiatsu which is located in Northern California. The word "Watsu" comes from reductions of two words: "water" and "shiatsu". The first people who tried a new technology were students who were engaged in swimming in a warm water, and altered shiatsu is now called "Watsu".
While performing a complex of Watsu exercises it is very useful to switch on some light, relaxing music. All exercises are performed under the supervision of and as directed by the master in the pool. The water temperature should be equal to the temperature of your body - this is important.
To get prepared for the session of Watsu special breathing exercises should be performed before entering the water. Only then you along with the master go into the water. The instructor starts with the massage of your ankles, and then puts special floats on them that keep you on the water during the performance of a session of exercises.
If one looks sideways at you and the master during the exercise, it may seem that the master rocks you atthe water cradle. Body rotations occur in opposite directions according to the technique of Watsu.
The relaxing effect of Watsu can not be overstated: after the procedure endurance and performance improve, stress is overcome. Contrary to a popular belief even the pregnant can go through Watsu, it does not do harm to them but even goes to their benefit.
